Floor-to-ceiling windows flood this space with natural light and offer views of the lush, palm-filled nursery and expansive lawns. The neutral interiors, soaring ceilings, and clean lines provide the perfect blank canvas for any occasion.
Surrounded by greenery, seasonal blooms, and picturesque waterways, the venue features a private courtyard and dedicated spaces for bar and catering stations—setting the scene for a lively garden event.
Just a short stroll away is Cuningham House, a landmark of architectural and historical significance. An elaborate staircase leads to a two-level greenhouse, home to an impressive collection of tropical plants, including kentia palms, banana trees, and native nīkau. This 1923 glasshouse is currently undergoing a highly anticipated heritage restoration and is set to reopen in 2027.
Venue hire includes a dedicated event manager and a duty manager (if required), full setup and pack-down, tables and chairs, dinnerware, glassware, a built-in sound system, and an on-site bar.
Since opening in 2014, ilex Café has earned acclaim for its design and is now considered one of Christchurch's most unique indoor-outdoor venues.
