Opened in March 2001 the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts is a purpose-built and award-winning performing arts and events centre with a confirmed reputation locally, nationally and internationally for the excellence of its purpose-built performance venues and rehearsal rooms for Music, Drama, Dance and Māori performing arts. It is located on the University of Waikato’s Hamilton campus. As an arts venue the Academy houses teaching, rehearsals and performances by students and staff in the University’s Music, Drama, Dance and Māori performing arts programmes. It also hosts concerts and performances by local groups and performers, and some of New Zealand’s leading music, theatre and dance companies, groups and solo artists. The Academy also hosts a wide range of social events and functions, including dinners, conferences and school balls. Above all it is a showcase venue for some of the University’s major public events including the Hamilton Public Lecture Series, the annual Blues Awards and Distinguished Alumni Dinners, and Honorary Doctorate awards. The excellence of the building, and its status as one of the city's and region’s most important arts and events facilities sets the standard for all our permanent and casual staff. Our aim is simple: to ensure that all our clients and patrons have a positive, welcoming and safe experience in our building.
