Wanaka Recreation Centre opened in July 2016 to provide a community sports and recreation hub for the Upper Clutha. The brand new three-pool swimming facility opened in June 2018.



Wanaka Recreation Centre complements the community’s rich sporting culture and rapid growth in population. The smoke-free complex has already become a hub for community sports, events and programmes, with several QLDC-managed social sport leagues. Whether you want to swim laps, soak in the hot pool, shoot a few hoops, hold a tournament or arrange weekly training, the 'Rec' offers a variety of options and equipment to suit locals and visitors alike. The indoor stadium and outdoor artificial turf can be configured for netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, futsal and hockey. Two grass sports fields are available for football and running and the three-pool swimming facility shares the main entrance and reception area. There is scope for further development as the community's needs change and grow in the future. Features of the indoor sports hall include: Rebound ace ‘impact’ flooring Centre curtain between court one and court two Lockable storage facilities Tiered seating for 250 people The hall can be configured for events to cater for 600 people seated banquet style, with a greater provisional occupancy. The total available floor area is 1564m².
