Built in 1873, St Patrick’s Church is one of the oldest wooden churches still standing in the North Island. Over the years, the original windows have been replaced with beautiful modern stained glass windows by local artist Jenni Lean, depicting the history of the Church and associated families of the Makara area. The Church is kept open for public viewing by the local community. St Patrick’s church seats approximately 100 people, with large lawns and circular driveway. An early settlers house and stables dating form the 1860’s sits between the Church and hall providing a rustic photographic backdrop. The Church has electricity, with toilet and parking facilities located at the adjacent hall.
