Broken Lantern is a beautiful two-level venue in an iconic 100-year-old building on Ponsonby Road.

On the ground floor, our street-side seating is a popular area to enjoy the lively Ponsonby Road. Within the main bar & restaurant, you'll find a variety of seated tables, leaners, and bar stools. Sit and enjoy the action as our bartenders pour any of our 20 taps, select boutique wines and create bespoke cocktails from our extensive list created by an international award-winning team. There is also a private garden on this level that gets beautiful afternoon sun and sunsets to the west. On the upper level, you'll find a cocktail lounge with a secretive speakeasy-style entrance that leads you through an old video store and a hidden door behind a DVD case. Further spaces include a private function space and a pool room equipped with its own bar and projector. Our core menu includes burgers, pizza, a selection of pub classic dishes, and, of course, a fun selection of bar snacks with vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. For private events, we offer bespoke canapés & beverage packages to meet your needs. From whisky or wine tastings to bespoke cocktail creations, cocktail packages, and more, you certainly won't go home thirsty from an event at The Broken Lantern.

The Broken Lantern truly exceeded all of our expectations! The lounge-style atmosphere of this restaurant and bar creates a relaxed and comfortable vibe that is perfect for a night out. Their liquor collection is extensive with an impressive range of gin, rum, and top-shelf whiskies. The cocktails were exceptional, and the bartender even crafted a delicious off-menu drink for me. But the real star of the show was the food. The menu offers a wide variety of shareable appetizers and main dishes, all of which were fantastic. I highly recommend trying the Ceviche, Steak, and Buttermilk Fried Chicken. The portion sizes were generous, and the potatoes that accompanied the steak were simply divine! To top it off, the service was outstanding. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about their impressive liquor selection. Overall, my partner and I had an amazing experience and would definitely go back again!
