Behold Christchurch’s newest wedding venue: a quaint chapel aptly named The Little Chapel, built in the 19th century but only opened for weddings in 2019. The Little Chapel is the social enterprise branch of The Home & Family Society Christchurch Inc. One of Christchurch’s popular attractions is their Gondola. It also happens to serve as one of their more unique wedding venues. The space features mountain-top function rooms for breathtaking views of the Southern Alps and city, a full kilometre above the rest and to the summit of Mt Cavendish. There are several spaces to choose from, The Crater Rim and Pinnacle Rooms, which can also be combined to host a maximum of 200 guests for your wedding. Guests will be transported via gondola to drink in a mountaintop wedding ceremony, with plenty of indoor space to keep them cosy and catering handled by Mona Vale. Now a landmark in Christchurch, the Cardboard Cathedral is, above all else, a wonderful space for a wedding. Designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban (who won the prestigious Pritzker Prize for doing so, the only building in New Zealand to have accomplished this feat), this venue is as remarkable as it is charming. It’s the only cathedral in the world to be made sustainably, constructed from cardboard tubes, steel shipping containers and the Cathedral’s original stained glass Rose windows. It also boasts space for up to 700 guests, with a duo of function spaces (the main hall and foyer) that can be combined depending on the size and nature of your wedding.
