Dunedin Airport is mostly serviced by domestic flights, so international guests will generally need to connect through Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch before flying into Dunedin. If you’re inviting guests from Australia or further afield, it’s helpful to include suggested flight routes, transfer options and accommodation notes on your wedding website. For larger guest lists, you may also want to suggest arriving at least a day early, especially if your venue is outside the CBD or on the Otago Peninsula.

Dunedin is the main city in Otago and is well positioned for guests travelling around the lower South Island. Queenstown is roughly 3.5 hours away by car, Christchurch is around 5 hours away, and Invercargill is about 2.5 hours away. This makes Dunedin a practical wedding destination for guests coming from across Otago, Southland and Canterbury, while still offering a strong sense of place for couples wanting something beyond the usual major-city wedding.

Dunedin has a range of local wedding vendors available - exact availability will vary depending on your wedding date and requirements, so it's worth booking key suppliers early, particularly during peak wedding season. Many venues have preferred suppliers they work with, so that is a great place to start.

Yes. If your venue already operates under an on-licence, the operator will usually manage those conditions. If you are using an unusual or one-off site, ask early whether a special licence is needed. DCC’s current Local Alcohol Policy review shows active local focus on trading hours, club-function controls, and special-licence conditions for larger events.
